Tik Tok is an app that allows users to create and share 15-second videos and has gained a huge following among youngsters within a short span of time.

Owned by ByteDance, it has garnered over 500 million users to-date and recorded over one billion daily views.

Many see Tik Tok as a platform to express their talent and it’s amazing to see how many singers, dancers and actors are among us.

Despite its growing global popularity, Tamil Nadu has decided to ban the app, saying many of the videos are inappropriate and degrading to Tamil culture.

Now, the Madurai bench of Madras High Court has issued an interim direction to the central government to prohibit downloading of TikTok App. The order also prohibits the media from telecasting videos made with TikTok

The Tik Tok app has now been banned to download in India since 18 April 2019. It has been removed from Google's Playstore and Apple's App store in India.
