Synopsis: Residing in Pune, Aakash a blind pianist (Aayushmann Khurrana) gets embroiled in an aftermath of a murder. His conscience urges him to report the crime he has technically not ‘witnessed’, but is there more to him than meets the eye?
Andhadhun Review:Raghavan, who rose to fame with the 2004 thriller film ‘Ek Hasina Thi’, directs this neo-noir film, taking inspiration from a 2010 French short film called L'Accordeur (The Piano Tuner) by Oliver Treiner. Raghavan’s ‘Andhadhun’, simply put is a narrative that falls along the line that “It’s more than meet the eyes”.
The movie is full of surprises and twists that will leave you at the edge of your seat. Imagine when you have a hero who is play-acting blindness; the femme fatale who is play-acting love; and the lead heroine who has fallen for the hero's play-acting of blindness, may herself be play-acting ignorance.
Sounds complicated? Don’t be taken aback by the complexity of the character as that’s what makes AndhaDhun by far the best thriller in 2018. You must watch it to believe it. Tabu did a fabulous job in donning her character, that for a second, you’ll have yourself hating her misdemeanor. The negativity of her character is delivered effortlessly and impactfully.
Ayushmann, on the other hand, has taken his game up with his character in this movie. His versatility as an actor and singer comes across beautifully and authentically into the narrative of a blind pianist. While Radhika Apte also blends in with her natural screen presence to add in tad bit romance into the screenplay.
The interesting background score adds as a perfect layer to the ongoing proceedings. Right from the piano performance and Anil Dhawan’s classic hits, it all adds up as a lyrical punchline to relief outlets when the pressure builds up in the second half.
Watch Andhadhun if you’re a fan of smart thriller and love to keep up with the guessing game as it happens. Also, trust us when we say the ending will leave you wondering, all thanks to the genius Raghavan Sir! ?
