Hindu astrology is a traditional system originating from the Vedas, an ancient Hindu sacred text. The system follows a calendar based on constellations with the Moon in the center. The central belief is that everything in the universe is correlated and planetary movements and positions affect our lives and actions.

Saturn or Sani (in Tamil) is one of the most feared planets in Hindu astrology. Known as the best judgement provider, Saturn is strict and disciplined. When you are blessed by Saturn, He can be generous in giving longevity of life and a positive spirit. But, if you have performed many bad deeds (karma) in your past or present life, He will make sure difficult times come your way.

There are two periods Saturn is most impactful in your life. It's known as the 7.5 year cycle and 2.5 year cycle. The 7.5 year cycle is considered more severe in karmic consequences as compared to the latter. According to Astroved, during these times, Saturn can bring 'diseases, perversity, poverty and ugliness of people to the surface.'

How to Reduce the Effects of 7.5 year cycle of Sani?

One of the simplest ways to reduce the effects of 7.5 year Sani is to be disciplined and rethink your life decisions. Avoid negative thinking and be patient when faced with difficulties. As the planet of Ego, Saturn cannot tolerate falsehood and arrogance, punishing those who fail to accept their mistakes and weaknesses. However, keep in mind that He also abundantly rewards perseverance and hard work.

Another way to reduce the effects of His presence is to recite 'Hanuman Chalisa'. According to Speaking Tree, in the Ramayana, Hanuman carried Mount Sanjeevani to eradicate the pains of Lord Rama and Lakshmana. The brother of Rama, Lakshmana, needed a life-saving herb called Sanjeevani and since Hanuman couldn't find it, He carried the entire mountain to the location of Lakshamana (Sri Lanka).

As such, reciting the Hanuman Chalisa is believed to reduce the severe effects of Saturn. It's best to recite the mantra early morning or at night. Find the video of Hanuman Chalisa in Tamil here:
