Can you really get addicted to streaming movies and series on Netflix? Apparently, YES!

The National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (Nimhans) in Bangalore reported the unusual case of an unidentified 26-year-old man who's suffering from Netflix addiction. He was unemployed and have been streaming on Netflix for 6 MONTHS to avoid facing the reality.

Nimhans' Professor of Clinical Psychology Manoj Kumar Sharma explained that the man binge-watched movies and shows for 7 HOURS every day as it made him feel good. His first move every morning after waking up was to switch on the TV!

“Whenever his family pressurised him to earn a living, or when he saw his friends doing well, he would watch the shows on offer continuously. It was a method of escapism. He could forget about his problems, and he derived immense pleasure from it,” Dr. Sharma added.

However, his escapism from reality didn't last long as this addiction brought in new problems like eye strain, fatigue, and disturbed sleep patterns. Can any of you relate? If yes, see a doctor immediately!

Well, good for that man for figuring out his addiction early on, but some of us might still be unaware of our addiction to technology as a whole.

It's true that technology does provide an instant diversion from reality. But at what price? In fact, as we commute in train to our workplaces every day, all we see around us are strangers taped to the screens of their smartphones—entirely unaware of the happenings around them. Random conversations, friendly glances or admiring the view seem like the things of the past now.

Well, maybe it's time we take a break from technology. What do you think?
