From musicians to artists to actors, these Malaysian Indian creatives have made headlines in recent years for their amazing work.

Highly talented and impeccably imaginative, these individuals are also renowned for their discipline and passion in their craft.

Rathimalar Govindarajoo

Specialising in Indian classical dance forms such as Odissi, Bharatanatyam and other contemporary dance forms, Rathimalar was Ramli Ibrahim's choice of lead dancer. To date, the dance educationist has performed in The Philippines, France, Italy, Japan, Indonesia, India, USA and Australia in both classical and contemporary dances.

Ruby Subramaniam

Considering herself a storyteller, Ruby Subramaniam is a self-taught artist. She has traveled to over 20 countries and 50 cities around the globe, painting and writing. She is also the founder of Art Battle Malaysia, a live painting competition.

Brendan De Cruz

Well known in the local music scene for his strong vocals, Brendan De Cruz is also extremely down to earth and passionate about his craft. The singer-songwriter has produced some truly heart tugging tracks.

Uthaya Sankar SB

If there is ever anyone who is passionate about the Malay language, it's Uthaya Sankar SB. Born in Taiping, Perak, the Malaysian writer has also founded the Kumpulan Sasterawan Kavyan (Kavyan Writers' Group). He is also known for translating several Indian literatures into the Malay language.

Jo Kukathas

You've probably heard of her. Jo Kukathas is famous for portraying YBee, a hilarious parody on Malaysian politicians. While many would not see her on the big screen, she is well celebrated in the Malaysian theatre scene.

K.S. Maniam

This Malaysian novelist is also an academic. Due to his preference for a low profiled life, the writer was thought to have left the country. To date, Maniam who has been writing since he was a teenager has written three novels and several short stories.

Malachi Edwin Vethamani

Currently a Professor of Modern English Literature, School of English at University of Nottingham Malaysia. He is a poet, short story writer and a bibliographer.  To date, he has published a collection of short stories, ‘Coitus Interruptus and Other Stories’ (2018) and two collections of poem, Life Happens’ (2017) and ‘Complicated Lives’ (2016). In  2015 he published 'A Bibliography of Malaysian Literature in English'. He also edited a volume of Malaysian poems covering a period of 60 years entitled ‘Malchin Testament: Malaysian Poems’ (Maya Press, 2017).
