1. Mahabalipuram


Also known as Mamallapuram, Mahabalipuram, is a town located between the Bay of Bengal and the Great Salt Lake. It's popular for its 7th and 8th century temples and monuments built by the Pallava dynasty. If you're a history buff, this site is a must visit.

2. Covelong Beach


Once upon a time this gorgeous beach was a port for ships. Today, it is filled with natural beauty and well known for watersports and windsurfing activities. The beach is also a favorite for those who enjoy fishing as a spot.

3. Thousand Lights Mosque


Considered one of India's biggest mosques, the Thousand Lights Mosque got its name because 1,000 oil lamps are lit in the mosque's hall. The mosque is open to the public from 5.30am to 9pm.

4. Sri Parthasarathy Temple


Dedicated to the Hindu god, Krishna, the Sri Parthasarathy Temple is famous for its high raised gopuram and beautifully carved sculptures. The temple is easy to spot and tourists will not be able to miss it even from a distant.

5. San Thome Church


Considered a relic of India's colonial past, the San Thome Church is situated on top of St Thomas' tomb. The church has its own museum, library and shops where you can purchase candles and flowers to pay your respects.

6. Fort St. George


This fort was bustling with British officials during the colonization of India. Today, it is home to a museum which houses silverware, coins, porcelain, documents, arms, and paintings of India's past. One of the tallest structures in India, the Flagstaff at the Fort, is also located here.
