Have You Tried Any of These Diets Yet? It's 2019's Most Popular Diets!

  • 01 Jul 2019

If you don't like how you look in the mirror or even how your body is affecting your health and mind, check out this list of diets that are currently popular.

It is always good to consult with a doctor before attempting any new eating regime to ensure you are getting all the essential nutrients that your body needs daily.

1. Low carb diet

Research has shown that it is a high consumption of carbohydrates that is leading the way in health issues. It does not mean that you should remove all carbs from your plate, just the refined carbs such as white rice, white bread and sugar.

2. Paleo diet

Still a popular choice among certain dieters, it mimics what our ancestors were thought would have eaten- meat, fish, poultry, fruits and vegetables. What is eliminated is processed food such as dairy, legumes, salt and sugar.

3. Intermittent fasting

One of the most popular diets today, intermittent fasting is famous not only because it claims to help lose the extra kgs fast but it heals the body too. There are a few variations but the most effective is when you split your meal times fast between 8 hours and 16 hours in between.

4. Raw food diet

The raw food diet claims that cooking food decreases certain nutrients especially vitamin C. Although this is true, most vegetables are digested better by the body when it is cooked because the heat breaks down the fibre. Cooking can increase certain nutrients such as antioxidants.

5. Veganism

People choose to become vegan for various reasons including animal welfare, the impact to the environment and potential health benefits. Eating more fruits, vegetables and grains are good but excluding dairy, poultry, meat and fish can cause serious nutritional deficiency.

6. Vegetarianism

Vegetarians tend to eat less saturated fat and cholesterol while consuming more vitamins, fibres and special plant components called photochemicals and flavonoids. This can lead to lower bad cholesterol, lower blood pressure and reduce risk of chronic diseases.

7. Keto diet

You've probably been living under a rock if you've haven't heard of this one this year. This one is a very low carb diet with a high consumption of fat and moderate amounts of protein. This is supposed to bring your body in a state of ketosis where your body starts to rely on the fat to burn any excess fat in the body. Studies have shown that it is a good treatment for children with epilepsy or diabetics.
