You may think that the only problem of having excess fat around your midsection is the limiting the choice of clothing you can wear, but aside from vanity concerns, you might want to also be concerned about its affect on your health.

That visceral fat has been linked to cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, dementia and even certain types of cancers such as breast cancer and colon cancer.

If you are struggling to reduce the fat, you could try this Ayurvedic drink which combines ginger, garlic and lemon. It is also effective for treating other ailments, ranging from cold, flu to fatty liver and high cholesterol.

Research has shown that ginger contains compounds called gingerols and shogaols that improves digestion and stabilises your blood sugar levels, which is important for any diabetic to control their insulin level.

Studies show drinking lemon water may increase your metabolism, and that it contains high amounts of antioxidants and vitamin C, which can improve your immunity. Garlic contains a compound called allicin, which blocks fat. It suppresses appetite and reduces those hunger pangs. Garlic increases your brain's sensitivity to leptin, which is a hormone produced by fat cells to regulate hunger.

If you are ready to improve your health and spot a slimmer look, here is the recipe:

1. Take 4 cloves of garlic and a small piece of ginger and blend it into a paste.

2. Boil two cups of water to a gentle simmer.

3. Add the ginger and garlic paste to the water.

4. Let it gently boil for two to three minutes. Do not over boil it.

5. Turn off the heat and let it rest for 10 minutes.

6. Strain the tea into a mug, and then add two teaspoons of freshly squeezed lemon juice to it.

7. You may add honey to it for added taste.

Drink this daily first thing in the morning and you will soon look and feel great.
