Subramanian Siva has made several successful films in the past including "Thiruda Thirudi" in 2003 and "Pori" in 2007.

He had even branched out and acted with Dhanush in the 2016 film, "Vada Chennai", playing a gangster. His last role as a director was eight years ago when he directed "Seedan", a remake of the 2002 Malayalam hit film, "Nandanam".

He is now back in his director chair with his latest film, "Vellai Yaanai", a film that focuses on the plights of Indian farmers.

"In mythology, Indran is the ruler of heaven, and his elephant, Airavatham, is a white elephant. In Tamil literature, marudha nilam (agricultural land) is considered heaven. We even have the Tamil saying 'Soru konda idam sorgam'. So, the farmer is the white elephant. And this film revolves around a farmer, and talks about the problems that they face in detail. That is why I decided to title it Vellai Yaanai," elaborates Siva, who has wrapped up the shoot of the film, and is currently busy with post-production work.

"But the tone of the film will not be preachy, but lighter and satire-ish," he adds.

He even shared several pictures of the film site with his fans on Twitter, captioning it as "#Vellaiyaanai Post production in full swing now.. soon in theatres".

Samuthirakani has been casted as the lead along with Aathmiya of "Manam Kothi Paravai"."Kani is an effortless artiste, and I cast him because he has the body language, voice and presence to portray a farmer. Though Aathmiya has acted in Tamil film, I chose her after seeing her performance in the Malayalam film Joseph," he said.

Yogi Babu has been roped in to fill an important role in the film, "For me, a comedian needs innocence and he has it. But his role in my film isn't restricted to comedy alone," and added that E Ramdas, director Murthy, and Saranya Ravichandran are also part of the film's cast.

Subramanian even decided to shoot the film without any composer! "I shot the songs using already released Tamil, Malayalam and Telugu songs. A top composer will be scoring the music for this film, though I cannot reveal his name right now."
