Cumin Biscuits

Cumin or jeera biscuits are a traditional Indian style biscuit.

It is called ‘biscuits’ instead of ‘cookies’ because biscuits are supposed to be crunchy and crispy in India unlike in other countries where biscuits and soft and chewy.

Astro Ulagam found a delicious Cumin Biscuit recipe for you to nibble with your masala tea!


All purpose flour- 1 cup + 2 tbsp
Unsalted butter, at room temperature - ½ cup
Sugar - ¼ cup + 1 tablespoon sugar
Salt – ¼ tsp
Cumin seeds – 1 tbsp
Milk – 2 tbsp if required


1) Roast 1 tablespoon of cumin seeds for ¾ minutes in an oven at 350 F degrees.

2) Use a mixer to cream together the butter and sugar.

3) Then, add flour, salt and ¾ tablespoon of cumin seeds to the butter mixture.

4) Mix at low speed until the mixture comes together in a form of dough. Only add milk if the dough doesn’t come together.

5) Sprinkle some floor on a flat surface and roll the dough into flat disc. Use desired shapes to cut the cookies and sprinkle with the remaining cumin seeds.

6) Bake the cookies for 10 minutes at 350 F degrees. Then, reduce the temperature for 325 F degrees and bake again for 5-6 minutes until the cookies are golden brown.

7) Let it cool and nibble with a cup of warm masala tea!
